The Rainbow Grasshopper: Aposematism and Teleology

Image
Teleology= function by design. The purpose of something is reflected in its design. Teleological argument for existence of a Grand Designer. That the design is so wonderful as to argue convincingly for the existence of a Grand Designer. Aposematism: Using vivid colors to warn predators of toxicity. The Rainbow Grasshopper: One of the best examples of Aposematism  and one of the most vivid examples of Teleogical evolution. Not the Bible, nor the Koran-BUT THIS leads me to the conclusion that there is a good probability that there is a Grand Designer who created our world. But this does not mean I think we should have a relationship with It. It is Man's self-vanity to think that It wants to have a relationship with us. These photos show several sub-species. Or even some that are  not Dactylotum Variegatus but equally colorful like the Leichhardt Grasshopper of Australia's Kakadu region (Black and Orange one below) or the one with horny growths at the back of its head; Phy...

LIFE IS A CLASS 4 CELLULAR AUTOMATA

Image
To all the ardent Creationists and Theists who keep writing to me re the posts on 'God' on this Blog. Thanks, but no thanks. I respect your need for religion but there are many like me who don't need it. So leave us alone. Here is a re-post from my Facebook: LIFE IS A CLASS 4 CELLULAR AUTOMATA To the Creationists and Theists who inhabit my Facebook, I understand that Religion is ultimately a quantum leap of faith and it is suitable for some people. But I am impressed by my correspondence with a pastor in Georgia, USA-who did use Science to explore alternative views of the origin of the Universe and Life before taking that leap of faith. I applaud him for that though I disagree with his conclusion. He has read Richard Dawkin's many books, Stephen Wolfram's A New Kind of Science, dabbled with Artificial Intelligence, and played with Cellular Automata such as Conway's Game Of Life (available as an iOS app). Cellular Automata are a simulation of Life played ou...

If you read Stephen Hawking's (and Leonard Mlodinow) latest book " The Grand Design", -New Answers To The Ultimate Questions Of Life [Bantam Press, 2010], in the last Chapter, he uses the example of Cellular Automata to explain how and why Life in this Universe could have come about-without the requirement for a God. It is an at...

The Etymology of "God" and "Religion"

Image
If, by 'God', you mean an old man with a long white beard, Sitting on a Cloud, then count me out... I have sometimes wondered what it means when people say they believe in God. I, myself believe in a God. But my definition of ‘God’ may be very different from others. When Einstein famously said , “ Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind”, religious leaders promptly and gleefully seized upon these words as proof that the greatest brain in the Universe believes in God. However, there are also many other words said by Einstein, which should be mentioned: “ I don’t try to imagine a personal God; it suffices to stand in awe at the structure of the Universe, insofar as it allows our inadequate senses to appreciate it”. “ I have never imputed to Nature a purpose or a goal, or anything that could be anthropomorphic [* i.e. anything that causes God to be moulded in the human image, in my opinion , a result of the vanity of Man: my words]What I see in Nature ...
