 Entikayrus Ancestor

Today, I start Project Entikayrus- a simulation of evolution by natural selection. Design and build done with AI (Anthropic Claude Opus 5.5). I am creating a cat-like creature called Entikayrus (name derived from NTK, the initials of my name).   

This project builds a full-colour, interactive animation showing how natural selection turns Entikayrus, a plant-eating cat-sized island creature, into an arboreal monkey hunter, while its monkey prey coevolves in response. It will take me 8 sessions to complete Project Entikayrus.

The story

Entikayrus lives on an isolated, forested tropical island. The island has no competitors for its food and no predators that hunt it. A population of small, quick monkeys lives in the lower branches of the trees.

The ancestor. Ancestral Entikayrus is about the size of a house cat, roughly 4 kg. It eats leaves, fruit, shoots and fallen seeds, mostly on the ground and in low shrubs. It has grinding teeth, a long gut, eyes set on the sides of its head, short sturdy legs, blunt claws and a modest tail.

The trigger. Monkeys are abundant and rich in protein and fat. Opportunistic individuals begin climbing to raid birds' nests for eggs and chicks, which gets them into the trees. There they also eat carrion from monkeys that fall and injured or very young monkeys that cannot escape. Individuals slightly better at climbing, seeing depth and gripping win more of these meals. Better-fed individuals raise more offspring, so those traits spread.

Why the change continues. Because there are no competitors, Entikayrus faces no pressure to stay generalist, and meat is a larger reward than plants. Because there are no predators, it can give up traits that only served defence, such as wide side-facing vision. The monkeys, now hunted, evolve to escape. Each improvement in the monkeys raises the bar for Entikayrus, driving an evolutionary arms race.

Real-world analogue. The Fossa of Madagascar is a cat-like carnivore that evolved on an island without competing large predators and specialises in hunting lemurs in trees. Its proportions guide the endpoint's shape. The Clouded Leopard of Southeast Asia, a larger cat that also hunts primates in trees, guides its upper size limit.

Knowing the market’s current risk state is foundational for portfolio decisions. Basic Markov chain models are a good starting point, but they fall short on three realities of financial data. Using as case study China's CSI300 Index, here’s how our model resolves each one and delivers a robust, reproducible Risk‑On/Risk‑Off signal. 1) Beyond “memoryless”: markets have persistence and aging Problem: Standard Markov chains assume memorylessness—the next state depends only on the current state, not on how long we’ve been there.
